A message from Nick Timothy MP:
Thank you for taking part in my survey about the testing of puberty blockers on children.
The results show that a large majority of those who responded (77 per cent) do not think the clinical trial of puberty blockers on children aged 10-16 is ethical. The same share did not think the test should go ahead.
64 per cent of those who responded said parents should have more control over what their children are taught in schools about issues of sexuality and gender identity.
If you would still like to take part in the survey, please click here.
Best wishes

- The question: “The Government has banned puberty blockers for children, citing safety concerns. Should the clinical trial testing these drugs on children aged 10-16 proceed?“: 77 per cent of those who responded said the trial should not go ahead versus 23 per cent who said it should go ahead.

Respondents were also able to give further comments on this topic. A selection of these is below.
“Children are not old enough to make decisions about their gender. They need guidance accept themselves the way they were born.”
“Clinical trials are essential if new drugs are to be made available. They will doubtless be very carefully monitored for safety and side effects.”
“This is totally wrong on all levels. It’s bad enough that we are asking children about their sexuality. They are children, let them be so and when they’re old enough they can make their own minds up. Trying to scew this with drugs is insane. Are they going to reincarnate Mengeler to aid these ‘experiments’! It’s disgusting.”
“It is disgraceful to allow this trial on young people between those ages as they are still developing physically and more importantly mentally. There is no understanding of what damage, psychologically, this could do to these young people in the future. I appreciate many young people feel they need these but counselling should be offered first and foremost to ensure it is not just a ‘phase’ they are going through or that they are doing it for either approval from their peers or just attention. I understand that there are genuine cases but people change their minds, and at these ages, they are more likely to do so, as they get older. Damage could be severe and may not be reversible.”
“Children cannot give informed consent. The possible negative medical consequences of puberty blocking drugs is already known. Puberty is a vital natural process for the essential development of all human bodies.”
“Why are we conducting experiments on vulnerable children?”
“I am a senior clinical trial co-ordinator and would refuse to work on such an unethical trial.”
“For children to be able to access puberty blockers they already have to jump through many hoops to get seen by the NHS before becoming eligible for this trial. The trial is for those who need it most and for those who it will help the most.”
“Testing drugs on children?! This is insane! If there are any potential risks at all then these drugs should not be anywhere near children, certainly not children who are mentally ill and have parents who think this is ok!”
2. The question:“The Cass Review found the evidence base for puberty blockers was “inadequate and poor”. Given this, do you believe it is ethical to test these drugs on children in a clinical trial?” 77 per cent said they thought it was not ethical to test these drugs on children.

“I know trans people who knew they were trans from a very early age. For them, going through puberty in the wrong gender was a horrific experience. If young people give their informed consent to these trials after receiving full information of the risks, it is ethical to allow them to take part.”
“Absolutely not, no clinical trial is ethical if being put on a person who is still growing mentally. How can it be ethical to do this and then say it’s unethical to allow young people to drink which is allowed. It feels like we are going back to the dark ages when ‘doctors’ think it’s good to pursue these trials when not enough research has been completed to highlight any potential risks.”
“Puberty is a natural and essential development process towards adulthood. There can be no justification for halting puberty, especially since there is evidence that puberty is the solution to the vast majority of children’s confusion.”
“Stop using our kids for Frankenstein experiments!”
“The cass review was massively flawed and incredibly biased.”
“Many thousands of children have already been given puberty blockers by Tavistock. The effects of those interventions should be studied before more children are put at risk.”
3. This question: “Do you believe parents and guardians are being given sufficient respect and freedom to decide what their children are taught in schools about issues of sexuality and gender identity?” 64 per cent said parents need more control over what their children are taught in schools about issues of sexuality and gender identity.

Respondents were also able to give further comments on this topic. A selection of these is below.
“Parents should be kept informed but should not be allowed to veto sex education in schools. Some parents have extreme religious views and try to impose them on their children.“
“My young daughter (under 16) was asked her pronouns by an activist teacher. She knew it was wrong because I had warned her and was distressed but she dare not let me go into school to complain for fear of repercussions. This should not be happening. Gender identity should be removed from all teaching and third party providers should not be invited into schools to teach this.“
“No one should interfere with Nature or children’s wellbeing. there may be damage to their metal health. Leave well alone.”
“When I tried to raise polite concerns the school denied what they taught and eventually sent a cease and desist solicitors letter and now refuse to engage with me. Schools only listen to parents that agree with them.“
“Gay and trans people exist. Hiding that from children will only lead to confusion, especially for children who are gay or trans themselves who may be left feeling like they aren’t safe at school.”
“I would add that parents are often unaware of what their children are taught in school regarding sex and identity. Third party organisations visit schools, deliver a highly ideological viewpoint to impressionable children who have ideas planted in their minds that they can choose which sex to be. RSE should be fact based, biology based not ‘feelings’ and propaganda.“
“Parents are the primary educators of their children and schools should not be teaching any of these things.”
“Children do not need schools to teach them about adult lifestyle choices in any detail. Information should be factual and age appropriate, with children being given the opportunity to ask questions. Teaching about what makes a healthy relationship is positive and should be applicable to all.”
“If the parents are unhappy with some of the woke nonsense being taught in schools, they should be allowed more say.”
“I worked in education for 17 years. What is taught is wrong now that’s why I left. Stick to the 3 rs.”
“It’s not up to the education system to teach these subjects to our children – parents should have the sole responsibility. Government needs to stop their indoctrination programmes – it’s bad enough when they affect adults but to apply them to children is utterly reprehensible and completely overstepping their remit to govern the country.”
