Nick Timothy — the MP for West Suffolk — has paid tribute to Newmarket charity Open Door, which gives housing, education and training support for vulnerable young people in the local area.
“This is an excellent local service with a warm and human approach that gives vulnerable young people a foothold for a strong start in life,” said Mr Timothy. “It is a valuable refuge and support network, and deserves to go from strength to strength and be supported in its important work.”
His words came following his visit on Friday 4 April 2025 to the charity’s housing unit on Newmarket High Street, and to its food bank on Craven Way.

Mr Timothy met residents and staff to hear about Open Door’s work, and to listen to views on how voluntary sector organisations can be best supported.
He added:“I was hugely impressed by the dedication of the staff, and the testimony of the residents I met. Open Door brings a very personal and human approach to helping young people who have nowhere else to go. Open Door is a great asset for the community. I pay tribute to their work, and thank the team for taking the time to show me around.
He added:“Open Door’s food bank is a crucial resource for Newmarket that makes a difference for those struggling to make ends meet.”
