Two million immigrants will soon be entitled to indefinite leave to remain. Labour told the papers they were going to change the rules to stop this. This was briefed to the media as a tough new crackdown. But, on 12 May 2025 under questioning from Nick Timothy MP in the House of Commons, Yvette Cooper just gave the game away: the new rules won’t apply to immigrants already here.
