Nick Timothy, the MP for West Suffolk, expressed admiration for the ‘excellent’ teaching and leadership team at Barrow CEVC Primary School following his visit there on Thursday 15 May 2025.
Mr Timothy met head teacher, Helen Ashe, and the school’s chair of Governors, Sarah Wightman, to hear about the school’s work.
Barrow is one of the few local primary schools with a swimming pool, and pupils enjoy the chance to learn to swim. They go on fascinating school trips, for example to a synagogue in East Anglia and to the Imperial War Museum at Duxford. And they take part in a range of activities — including touch typing, cookery and gardening. This enables the children to develop their talents and interests.
After chatting with the leadership team of the school, Mr Timothy sat down with Year Six pupils to answer questions. The children asked about his views on Standard Assessment Tests, what a typical day as an MP is like and how often he attends Parliament.
Commenting after the visit, Mr Timothy said: “I was delighted to meet the teachers and pupils at Barrow CEVC Primary School. It is a lovely school with really committed teachers. The quality of the education was very evident in the poise, maturity and conduct of the pupils I met.
“They put to me some excellent questions on what it is like to work in Parliament, and about the work that I have been doing to protect and improve our area. It is an exciting time as children prepare to move on to secondary school, and these pupils have bright futures before them.”
