Nick Timothy MP wrote to Suffolk Highways on 26 February 2025 about the closure of the A134 south of Bury St Edmunds at weekends, which will last from this month until early May.

The astonishing 43-mile official diversion that has been put in place will add an hour and fifteen minutes to journey times, and the closure has caused huge disruption for the post office in Sicklesmere, creating access issues access for emergency vehicles and carers and leading to an increase in HGVs on unsuitable roads through villages such as Hawstead Green.

Nick has asked why there was not more consultation with residents and parish councils and will continue to closely monitor the situation.
