On 4 November 2024, Nick Timothy MP asked the Education Secretary, Bridget Phillipson, to rule out scrapping Standard Assessment Tests (SATs) in the final year of Key Stage 2 (for pupils aged 10-11, just before they go to secondary school). SATs are vital for measuring both the school’s — and each child’s — progress and achievements in maths, spelling, punctuation and grammar, plus reading. The Education Secretary refused to rule out doing so.
