On 8 January 2026, Nick Timothy MP pressed the Transport Secretary on infrastructure for West Suffolk and the wider East of England. We need better connections – especially with new housing going up.
We need the Ely and Haughley rail upgrades, a dualled line from Cambridge to Newmarket, and a new rail link to Haverhill. He asked if she’d meet to discuss how we integrate development policies with transport decisions.
If we are going to get new housing in West Suffolk we need to make sure we get better infrastructure – and connections to Cambridge that will bring growth and prosperity for us.
The Transport Secretary, Heidi Alexander, agreed to meet and confirmed the Ely and Haughley upgrades are in the Government’s longer-term pipeline – not least to help get freight from Felixstowe off the roads and onto the railways.
