Minister fails to rule out cutting criminals’ sentences by up to 40%

In 2024 thousands of inmates — including dangerous offenders — were released early by the Government.

Now Sir Brian Leveson has recommended that ministers should scrap jury trials and cut sentences for criminals who plead guilty by up to forty per cent.

On Wednesday 9 July 2025, Nick Timothy MP asked the Courts Minister Sarah Sacks whether the Government would rule out this out, and ominously she failed to do so.
