What are your thoughts on local government reform?

Last week, the Government announced that planned elections for new unitary councils would not go ahead in several areas, including Suffolk.

Following legal advice, ministers are reviewing the proposed local government changes. While elections elsewhere may only be delayed, Suffolk’s planned unitary elections have been cancelled. Instead, local elections will take place in 2027 using the existing district council boundaries. But we do not even know for how long the district council will last.

The mayoral election, which is currently planned for 2028, will still go ahead, but uncertainty remains over the future arrangements.

There are also growing concerns that Suffolk and Norfolk Constabularies could be replaced by a single regional police force. These decisions could have significant consequences for our communities. I want to know what you think.
